Gulf Coast Cardiothoracic Surgery Institute’s cardiothoracic surgeons provide innovative approaches to treatment for heart failure and advanced heart disease.
Heart failure, which is sometimes called congestive heart failure, occurs when your heart muscle doesn’t pump blood as well as it should. Until recently, more than 250,000 heart failure patients have had no viable treatment option other than receiving a heart transplant. GCCSI’s heart surgeons can correct cardiac failure by treating the underlying cause within the heart.
Advanced heart disease includes a number of conditions. GCCSI patients commonly have previously been diagnosed with coronary artery disease, aortic valve disease, mitral valve disease, thoracic aortic aneurysms or cardiac rhythm disturbances.
GCCSI’s surgeons have extensive experience with the open heart and minimally invasive heart surgery including the following procedures:
- Mitral valve repair and mitral valve replacement
- Aortic valve repair and aortic valve replacement
- Anti-atrial fibrillation surgery
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement surgery (TAVR)
- Coronary artery bypass
- Robotic thoracic surgery and videoscopic thoracic surgery
GCCSI works closely with patients, their cardiologists and other physicians to ensure that the best care possible is provided before, during and after surgery. Coordination with the patient’s referring physician after each procedure is important to help patients return to the quality of life they once enjoyed.
